Drenched in Snow (part 2)

A collection of pictures taken by my wife on her journey home:_) what a cheesy story. But, well..yes..it's true...She happened to be romantically fallen for everything with snow, not to say the least..anything with contrasting white backdrop.

First, she got to capture this lonely red rose.....beautifully immortalized in this picture.

looks so lonely...yet glaringly beautifully clad in glorifying red imbued with the white sprinkles of snow on its petals. (oh..NOOO...it's me who's become melancholic:)!!! 

all trees and used-to-be dried grass seemed to be forever lost....covered in white snow. 

Even the red fire-hydrant seemed to be helplessly fallen for white snow.

Seoul Lantern Festival 2013 (part 3): Multicultural Bridge

We bumped into a huge ball of light cover with rags or colorful patterns symbolizing the changing society in Korea. 

I think it's made to remind people here (in Korea or in Seoul particulary) that the society is changing into a diverse one.

The Ball is placed right in the middle of a bridge over cheonggyecheon where the lantern festival was held.

Seoul Lantern Festival 2013 (part 2)

The last lantern we saw as far as we could go. There were too MUCH people. (not many:-)...so "much" that we decided to stop walking. :)

Then, as soon as we got out of the cheonggecheon stream, we bumped into some stands where we could participate in kid-friendly activities. 

Balloon-inside-balloon. 

Or lighted butterflies... 

Or plain ornaments or lanterns with painting on them. 

Eyra decided to take a 2,000 Won worth of decorating heart-shaped light. 

While Freya chose a lantern-decorating activity. 

She's happy that I let her choose what she wanted to. 

I wonder what she was writing...

Freya's busy pasting the cut-paste of all shapes onto the lantern. 

It's a great outdoor activity though it was cold. 

Although it's like 9.30 pm...but... 

More and more kids came in to start decorating their lantern.

Well, with 5,000 Won for one lantern,

Freya made (read: decorate) a lantern of her own.

Seoul Lantern Festival 2013 (part 1)

Two days before it all ended, we decided to take a look at this year's Lantern Festival. 

As in previous years, it is held at Cheonggyecheon. 

and this year's theme is Baekjae Kingdom. 

Most of the lanterns being displayed highlight the life in Baekjae Kingdom. 

Royal courts with its disciple or high noble gathered in front of the king.

*no detailed information I could write down here. *sigh* 

Just ordinary...circles full of symbols or what I am not sure...but they sure looked lovely. 

Are these symbols simply symbols or patterns? 

Once again..I should've known what they meant. 

we couldn't read the explanation of what they mean due to the swarming crowd.

Looks like lots of people would rather take a rest and sit by the stream...

Seoul Lantern Parade 2013 (part 2)

One monk approached a bystander and asked for a light for his (as I suspected) un-lighted lantern. 

Me, too. Me, to, Me, too.^^ 

Eyra got one tiny purple lantern filled with candies from one of the parade participants.  

An elephant float just floated us by.

Got no idea of what these were.... but neat, though.

Some (I supposed) fairies(?)....correct me if I am wrong....were on the float. 

Butterfly-shape ladies..I mean the ... 

Finally..I got a chance to capture the moment with the kids during the lantern parade. 

Oh, wait...is that another lantern on my hand? Yup, someone gave us a lantern, this one..was bigger than the one Eyra got earlier. 

On our way home....waiting for the subway.it's about 9 pm and the parade was not over actually..but since we got to be home by 10...oh well...let's go home, kiddos.

Seoul Lantern Festival/Parade 2013 (part 1)

7 pm...the sun was about to set...and yet...the flocks of people already blocked our view^^ should've come earlier.

*Wait....where are the lantern?:) 

Hmm...guess..the first parade was the line up of people parading along the Jeongno street. 

Voila...at last we found some empty/half-deserted seats since some people prefer standing..up close to the street.

*So..it made us feel relieved that we could at least sit while enjoying the parade.  

I guess..it was the first float of lantern we encountered.  

Was it Haechi? I don't know it for sure....I could be wrong, though. 

Then..along came the ibu-ibu/ladies clad in hanbok while uplifting the lanterns with the sticks on. 

Some dances were put on the show...right on the spot. 

Led by a monk in the first row of more parades to come..we could finally see the start of the parade...
