Wandering around Downtown Seoul. ..part 3: taman kakek-kakek

It's one of the attractions within the park: the 10-story Stone pagoda...built in 1467.

It's preserved inside a glassed architecture....

Since it's autumn...the view was relatively calm and easy on the eyes....

As lots of the locals know....this park is famous among senior citizens to meet their counterparts.

I don't know why but most of the visitors to the park...apart from occasional tourists....are elderly people. They're taking a rest at the area.

At the center...there's this Korean-style gazebo. ...

....again. ...most of the time..we'd end up bumping into senior citizens. It's a different kind of feeling when we're there.

Back...and stepped out of the park...walked foe about 10 minutes to the right...we'd bump into this unique architectural building.

A good portion of the floors was used as restaurants. .so I heard. The views too were also  incredible...so again...I heard.

At Jongno intersection....a view of some office buildings was candidly captured...candid??~^^

Yup....wAiting for the sign to.cross the street...and saw a Bosingak bell pavilion.

Again...bumped into this architectural top notch.

....again....a picture of the glassed box protecting the 10-story stone pagoda.

Yip....I'm not kidding. This is intentionally erected to preserve this historical relic.

It's within the complex of Tapgol park..

See? This isit.

The stone pagoda builtin 15th Century during Joseon era.

A unique architecture indeed.

I can't help but wondering about Prambanan.temple in Indonesia. What about it???

That would be incomprehensibly.....unimaginably.... unthinkable to.do the same...considering the sheer size. After all. ...perlukah???

Wandering in Downtown Seoul ..part 1

Millennium Tower at Jongno intersection....is the unmistakable landmark in the area.

I was having my alien card extended at the near3st immigration office.

...so to kill the time while waiting for my turn....

What's not to like about wandering around the neighborhood???

...and bumped into this landmark tower.

Had a chance to takea closer look and got some shots from below.

Then...about 400 meters away....I arrived at Tapgol.Park...and found this glassed architecture.

Inside is a 10-story stone pagoda....!

Called...Wongaksa. hope I'm not mistaken...built in the 14.....!

Then....back to the Millennium Tower....and got back to the immigration office.

Tapgol Park @ Seoul

Tapgol Park or Pagoda Park or ....Independence Park...or so I read in other brochure...that's how this park got its name.










 First thing first, I got the impression that...lots of senior citizens were flocking, roaming around, chatting with others, meeting their friends, walking around, sitting around, or just enjoying the park. Barely youngsters went there (that's what I saw though). then....a whole bunch of kindergarten or first year of elementary school students were seen walking through the park with their students.

Good.
Why is that?
Because I learned that this is the first modern park ever built in Seoul. Not only that, it turned out that it was the first venue where Independence proclamation protest or movement was ever being held--back then in March 1, 1919. (March 1 is now one of the national holidays in Korea)...just like last Thursday^^



I also learned that this park also conserves Wongaksa sipcheungsoktap or that's how I remember it. It is a ten-storied stone pagoda---what's more interesting is that.....this pagoda is secured or kept within the high glassed wall as tall as the pagoda itself. I think because this is one of the most important treasures for Korea, I think so.
Apart from that, something enticed us more--especially because I was going there with my kids.


The parks had lots of birds ( I was not so sure as to whether they were doves, pigeons, or any other kinds of birds). They looked like pigeons but they were somewhat little bigger than the averaged pigeons). Anyway, they did attract my kids that we were luring them in such a way so as to make them get nearer nearer and .......play with us. And...it worked.^^
That was how one-hour afternoon was well spent in the park, Tapgol park ...right in the heart of Seoul, Jeongno area.
