Post-Monthly Presentation

Yup, as what we do on a monthly basis, we have a presentation about each of our research progress with our supervisor. As it ended....as usual....we had lunch...together and then...continued our talk over the table at our campus cafe. 

Thanks for sharing all the fun, the rides, ups-and-downs, the roller-coaster-like journey in our research, guys. My fellows, from the left: Zhangxuejiao, Aya Toyama, Wuxuan, and Daniel. Yup..there are two others, as well.

It's been a great journey with you guys. See you next month. ^^ again. 

Glad to know that we're in this together.

One More Thing To Go

The final semester of my required 4-semester at the program.

 Now that I finally finished the 4th semester with a good result I should cherish and be thankful for, I cannot just be relax and loosen up even a bit...

since more challenges are coming. 

But whatever they are....I hope I can finish my goal of completing my PhD until next year, 2015. That's the goal. Of course..there are lots of things to do...but I am sure that things are going to be fine as long as I stick to what I have planned. 

it's been such a great time....every moment of it. 

squeezed among classes, researches, traveling, .....all packed in ONE.

(Another) End of Class Dinner!!!

Thank God..there'd been rice and banchan or side dish..otherwise I would not have eaten anything.^^ Our class just ended a week ago and the professor invited us to have a dinner at Suraksan station, line 7, about 30 minute subway ride from campus. 

He told us that there was this delicious fish restaurant there.

And..here it was.  

Dong min dung, my Vietnamese friend, seemed to be so eager of devouring into this fish......and fish....and fish. Oh, the restaurant juin was cutting the fish into small chops....of course...in a Korean style by using scissors.  

See? scissors are widely used to chop the food. I am sure that they're solely used for food.  

It turned out to be Nong's, my Thailand friends,  first-time to visit this kind of restaurant.

Well, good for you, too, then...

After devouring ourselves into all-fish related food...which I could not eat at all....we're heading to this on-the-roof-top live music bar.....^^ 

Say cheese, guys.

Again...since I don't drink:-) ....the only thing I could delightfully enjoy while being @ the bar was of course..as the picture shows....fruit platters!!! yup, I bet it's expensive..as just in any other places like this. It could be meagerly cheap at any restaurant but definitely NOT at this kind of marked-up place. But, boy..they're fresh.^^

The wrapped stuff with a note on it.....yup..that's the book that my friend, Intan, asked me to borrow from the campus library. She couldn't borrow it from our library, of course, since she's not a student in our university. So, I borrowed the book, wrapped it up, put it on a shelf at the international lounge, 1st floor of our building..where she'd pick it up. 

Then, I took a snap shot of the room so as to give Intan a view of how the room would look like when she arrived at the campus. 

and oh yes...the facade of the international building was also included.

Not much going on...this entry is just about pictures I took that I actually sent via Kakaotalk to Intan...as direction to take the book she asked me about.

Coffee Time After a Colloquium

We just finished having our monthly colloquium. Today we had our fellow senior who (happened to be in Korea from her post in Chile) and who (were willingly giving her time) to present her dissertation plan. It's quite an interesting topic since she brought up about this 'nana' issue in relation to the Korean immigrants in Chile. 

Even, we talked about it as well, when we're at the cafe. It's that good.

To accompany myself...during the after-party:), I only ordered this affogato--which was actually not really my favorite coffee...but..since it's the smallest one..I just played along with it. 

I wonder as to why the scoop of vanilla that was supposed to be 'complementing' the flavor...turned out to be cooling me off a bit. But, it's still 'enjoyable' though.

* I just wished that we had avocado coffee here in Korea, NOT affogato.:) 

Okay..back to the after-party, most of us are PhD candidates who are either writing their dissertation or in the middle of field work or in the middle of 'soaring to the clouds of ideas' or in the middle of 'what-the-heck-I-am-doing-here' contemplation....

or ...well....we're here now. 

together....

End of The Spring Semester &.....

as the saying goes, it won't over till it's over...yes...we officially ended our class (Modern Korean Society & Gender) with 'lunch' @ Namaste, an Indian restaurant just across our campus. Prof. Park asked us where to meet and since me and my friend do not eat meat, we might as well go to Indian restaurant where all of us could savor the likes of meat and non-meat flavor of India.

I had a lunch menu...nan or pratta as I know it....or Indian bread..then curry..( the indispensable main menu in every Indian restaurant), rice, lassie, and...masala....wait..is that right? anyway..that's the picture...let it do the talking.

It looks simple, eh?(but ..it was 11,000 Won...^^ 

Then..the whole gang of our class got together...Prof. Park seemed to enjoy the meal...I think she did. Oh, I didn't mention that..actually it was our last day of class and the final paper was due by noon as we got here!! Yes, we brought along our final term paper to be submitted directly to Prof. Park...with a file of it sent beforehand.  

basically...we're having a class and the talks over the table were not that far from what we'd had in the whole class during this Spring semester.

I learned a lot during this semester...especially this Gender(ed) class..^^ (pun intended).

I mean...Gender & Modern Korean Society.

Thanks to the professor and all of my friends who had made a lively class during the 16-week course we've been through.

Jeonju Trip (part 3): Hanbok Shop

 

As it turned out, we were ushered into the hanbok shop. For whaattt? we're told that we could pick one and we're gonna wear that for half-day^^.

What? those hanbok? gosh..no..that's for girls.

Pretty neat, uh? 

The shop owner picked one for us and we're then..on our mission to put on hanbok!! 

If we look at them closer, we'd find that the intricate decorative patterns on hanbok looks cool--never thought of it, before. 

After we got our style!! and boy..I look round and stout^^ of course I did mind for a while...but..then...oh, well..I might just go along with it.

that's more like it. We had our tummy full and now it's talk over dinner time. 

But then, we would never have gotten into the gist of the party had we not talked about stuffs that mostly concern us....and... 

we would never have gotten into the bottom of our friendship, had we not used the best of this moment to ask others to join in...and take a group pic like this one.

GSIAS Home Coming Day Dinner (part 1)

Yes, it's been my second year of studying at GSIAS. Never thought that time flew so fast like this. Having said that, it's my 2nd time of participating in this home-coming day dinner party with friends. 

all students were sitting along with their own peer or one department.

Oh, this is the dinner we'd been waiting for ..after the previous session of talk-talk-and talk (a.k.a. seminar!!) 

It was a good thing that there are lots of things for a vegetarian to enjoy. 

Let's start digging into the food, my dear fellows. 

And..then..came the game-show. what would be a party without any games, eh? 

and a guest performance, as well.
