Simpang Lima Gumul: Arc de Triomphe ala Kediri

We managed to visit the SGL (Simpang Lima Gumul), a monument at the eastern gate to Kediri city. 

This was built like the famous Arc de Triomphe in Paris. ^^ Of course, it's completely different in style and grandeur. Though I've never been to the one in Paris, this one in Kediri is more like half-finished monument..

Well, it's relatively good in the sense that for the locals who yearn for something different...it's a good hang out place...^^ but...the final touch of this monument was not that smoothly executed. 

Unfortunately that's what I felt....^^

But, of course, it didn't prevent us from enjoying the time we spent there. 

The reliefs carved on each side of the monument tell about the history of Kediri..since its initial establishemt until the present day. 

At least...we were there to be there for ourselves to see what's the fuzz about it. 

Did we enjoy the trip? oh, yeah we did. 

Arc de Triomphe ala Kediri...none other than Simpang Lima Gumul (SGL) Monument.

I saw Kediri's Arc de Triomphe again...and....

again and again....

yup, this time..I took this picture while I was in a car circling the roundabout on my way to my uncle's house. 

Lots of people were taking a stroll along the Arc. 

The sign indicating that we could just circle about this monument designed after the famous Paris' Arc de Triomphe, Only this one...is Kediri' style. 

With a perfect blue sky, people were having an on-site picnic to admire this monument.

BUT......

This is what happened after the eruption of Mount Kelud on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 2014. Volcanic ash, sands, pebbles covered all roads and streets around this monument.
