Dinner @ Ayam Lodho Restaurant

The 2nd day of my stay in Kediri was celebrated by inviting the whole family for a dinner at a nearby restaurant....which later on I found out to be our Dad's favorite in town.
The whole family came, my sister, my brother and along with their children (my nephews and nieces).
Lala, Nana, Barra, and Ricky, their Dad.
and then my brother,Wawan's children...were all so excited to be having a dinner together.
Grilled fish turned out to be their favorite...
The restaurant is well situated not far from home..and the laid back atmosphere sort of helped us enjoy the night in a relaxing way...
Photo session at the parking lot before parting. Yes, my brother lives a bit far off so...
Why not take a picture before leaving, right?
Indeed, it's a great night. Being with the whole family...well not whole since my wife and kids were in Seoul when I visited home.^^
Bye bye Wawan. See you again soon.

Travelling Sisterhood Wear

A sisterhood in the making? sort of. Eyra and Freya are excited to meet again with their cousin, Lala.
They prepared the same outfit for the occasion. They're like..inseparable starting from day One when we arrived in Kediri.
Okay...their pants are..at least...different from one another. Though they cannot 'create' travelling sisterhood pants..at least..for the time being...they have something in common...in term of what they're wearing.
Then...another what-are-you-doing kind of .....activities that only kids can do without any worries of other's stern look...which is...
Enjoying donuts. NOT JUST any other donuts..it IS J.CO Donuts we've been craving for ..even when're still in Seoul.
Hope Seoul..will have its first J.CO Donuts soon.
Even Shanghai has opened some...so....Seoul....Seoul...Seoul...
back to the sisterhood: I do hope that all of you, girls, will always be happy and faithful to one another.
"Did you have a great J.CO partying?"

From Kediri to Jogjakarta by Train (again)

It's almost 7 pm and we had to go back to Jogjakarta after spending 12 hour in Kediri.
It looks so unreal to think.....that...after 1,5 year living in Korea...and yet I only spent 12 hours back home...in Kediri, my hometown.
But...situations compelled us to cramp our itinerary so as to be able to meet and do and make the best of our time.
Freya and Lala ....had to say goodbye to each other for the time being.
Nana and her daughter...in front of Kediri Station front facade.
Freya, joined in...along with Nana's husband, Ricky..who's kind enough to see us off to the station.
My mom and Freya were seen inside the waiting room at the station, while I was walking outside to take a picture...and enjoying the scent and sound of Kediri...before leaving for Jogjakarta.
Bye-bye Mbah Pi (grandma)...see you again.
The moment to remember. I wish all happiness and health to my Mom and all of my family.
Thank you, Mom. See you again.
Wassalammu'alaikum. Insyaallah we meet again this year on Lebaran or in any holidays.
Freya gave a peck on Barra's cheek while Lala watched it in excitement.
It was a great day in Kediri, back home.

Tarawih @ Kediri, East Java (part 1)

Even before going back home, I had this reminiscence of what I would encounter on the days ahead while I am home: to be exact….I had this notion of the specially observed night prayer that every Muslim should do at night: tarawih. The reason as to why I had this so-called preparation, reminiscence, willingness to think about it is because the tarawih in Kediri, my hometown, would surely be different from the way I am used to do for the past 18 years in Jogjakarta.
Jogjakarta can be considered the basis of Muhammadiyah where tarawih prayer is observed in 11 rakaats (including witir). While on the other hand, East Java, especially my hometown Kediri, can be considered as one of the devout basis of Nahdlatul Ulama where tarawih prayer is observed in 23 rakaats (including the witir ‘ the last’ prayer of the night).
I am not going to venture into the differences between the two in depth; nor will I talk about how they differ; nor will I think about the reasons as to why each became so. No. I am just going to jot down what I felt during my experiences of having been in  a different situation from what I am used to have.
At first, I felt kinda reluctant to go to the Mosque where tarawih is observed in 23 rakaatsJ. So, on the first night of my being home, instead of going to the Musholla near my house, I asked my father where he usually observes the tarawih prayer. He informed me that he always goes to his school where the tarawih is organized by the teachers as well as the students of SMP PGRI Branggahan. When I asked how many rakaats are there to perform, I jumped on my feet upon finding out that it would only be 11 rakaats. That was just what I had expected. Not a chance to miss it.
So, on the first day of the tarawih at home, I found it a bit challenging. Although it was performed in 11 rakaats, I found it different as well. I thought that it was a bit hasty and I could not just keep up with the rhythm. Well, the verses were short, instead of the long verses of Surah that I am used to having back home in Jogjakarta. I guess it was because the jamaah was mainly the students who must know that performing tarawih should not be deemed as a burden. So, the Imam was deliberately using short Surah so as to let the students know that performing prayer ‘sholat’ was not a difficult task to do. They can just use short verses of Surah in praying. I agreed to that.
Then, I was waiting for any kultum (kuliah tujuh menit) or any religious speeches or so. I found none. Instead, I just found some very short speech from the Imam. I guessed it was meant to be the sermon. I presumed so. (to be continued)

Taman Safari Indonesia in East Java (Jawa Timur)

It was also a recollection of our trip to Safari Park in East Java. Along with other members of our Center for Language Training, we had this wonderful time there.
Eyra was still about 2 or 3 years old, I guessed.

So, we had this unforgettable time of beating the specially designed off-track attractions.
Taking picture with the lovely cubs was one of my favorite moments.
I think …going there again with Freya would be a great treat.
Hmmm but when…guess…I could do it later on after going back (or in between) from KoreaJ
I heard that this Taman Safari has changed a lot and it offers great attractions that compete with those in Singapore terutama untuk Special Effect shownya (di sini ada Journey to Temple of Terror)  and Hongkong. Bahkan Dolphin Bay Area taman Safari ini telah mengalahkan Hong Kong. Terbaik beritanya. hmm jadi penasaran nich.:)
