Just when we feel like munching. ..we go to Jaws and grabbed some Korean snacks.

most of them are twikim or gorengan/tempura..

Let's have Some Lunch

Lunch, dinner...whenever ..whichever...Bapuri family restaurant is just around the block.

And there are some indispensable menu whenever we go there.

Right, Freya?^^

It's veggie gimbab or sometimes shrimp gimbab. 

Of course, with ham excluded on purpose.^^ 

The colorful combination of ingredients that make up and give meaning to the word 'gimbab' really sums up how it does taste.

Then, chijjeu rapukki (cheese on top of ramyeon and ttteokpukki 'rice cakes') with its spicy gochujang 'chili powder' sauce gives an unforgiving taste in the sense that we're hooked on this particular food.^^

Then..udon or udong with its crispy tofu-like crackers on top of it.

We do love having each of them for either lunch or dinner...well...twice a week, maybe.^^

죠스 ...Jaws

Nope...it's not Spielberg's movie:-) For most Koreans, jaws or in Hangeul 죠스 is a franchise restaurant specializing in tteokpukki 떡볶이 -one of Korea's snack made of sticky rice served along with the spicy gochujang /고추장/chili powder paste. Again..I am not good at describing food.....but boy..this 죠스/Jaws' snack is once or twice a week getaway to dine for. ^^

I mean..it's delicious...especially the twikim 튀김 or tempura or gorengan...ala Korea ..Korean style tempura....that goes along with the tteokpukki....^^

hmm....it's one to dive for. ^^

So, for anyone longing or trying to dip into Korean-street-food but nicely served in a restaurant-like atmosphere...why not try out at one of these Jaws/죠스 chain store across the country.

*we're happy to have one near our home..^^

Jaws Time & ....

Jaws Tteokkpukki (죠스떡뽁이) is a brand name for a franchise restaurant specializing in tteokpukki or rice-cake snack...and other gorengan or tempura or 튀김 a la Korea. 

The tteokpukki was so hot that well...Eyra found it irresistibly ..relentlessly torturing for the kids.^^ but..so much so...we keep coming back..:) 

They love the ojingo or fried squid...oh....and I happen to be a vegetarian. So, I've been always their guardian angel *chuckle* who accompanies them whenever they eat something like this. 

Gosh..all of my girls lovveeeeeee this jaws-time:)..but for me..sure..I could, too..though not so much into it like they are:) 

Yippiee...ice cream time....now I can enjoy and pamper myself with this...

but then again...they chose the flavor of their dream...and not mine:(

ㅋㅋㅋ once again..I could only see them having a great time... 

and...at home..they're also having a blast..with their tiger-dolls....even when they're having dinner.

콩국수가 왔다!!! Kongkuksu is Coming......!!!

콩국수 (kongkuksu) or let's see...I don't know how to describe it...I just do not want to copy and paste from the internet to 'tell' and 'describe' what it is. Just that. Ok..let me try...I think..this is a summer-only noodle soup. But, here's the catch: the soup is not just an ordinary one, it is made of grated or ground soybean (be it the white ones or black ones). Yes, the ground soybean is mixed with water, salt..(I guess) and other ingredients that I am not sure what..then mixed together with some sliced cucumber for garnish. Oh...a slice of egg, too..would do the trick to make it tastier. 

oh..I guess...are those sesames?  

And..another thing that I ordered at the same time...was....라뽁이 (rapukki). It's I-am-telling-you-I-am-not-lying spicy noodle mixed in gochujang or Korean-style chili pepper (this one what makes it hot!). Other garnishes they put in it are.....odeng (fish-cakes??), sesames (not agaiiin), one whole boiled egg, and..of course..the tteokpukki itself. Because  rapukki is a coined word that comes from a combination of ramyeon + tteokpukki. 

Ok..back to 콩국수 (kongkuksu)....I guess I'll have to eat more of this during summer....

cos it's refreshingly fulfilling.

INternational food fista

 Fiesta? Indeed it was.

I should have posted these pictures in my previous blog about the Purun Community Center's anniversary today. But, at least I could point out that Korean food, Indian food, Vietnamese Food, Indonesian food , and others could come on one table and we simply mixed everything up so as to make it like a bibimbap^^: the true essence of multicultural community that the Purun organization supports.  We have tteok and tteokpukki with all of their variants, of course. then Biryani rice! hmm  I love Indian Biryani rice. Then we have tahu isi, tempe goreng, tahu campur, and krupuk!!!

The prolonged lunch had finally arrived. DiG iN!!!!

Poli the RoboCar.... Finally...

Eyra and Freya have been going over heel about this animated character Poli the Robocar 폴리 로보카. They've been asking me to buy the toy version of them. So, I asked both of them and asked them to promise ....that should they be good to each other...and (as for Eyra)...should she be good at school and be good at doing her homework.....I'd be more than willing to buy them the toys they wanted.
So, I did cos they did.

Last night, we went to Tesco's Home Plus where all of the toys were there as if the place was meant to be the heaven of kids' imagination. Ok, we did not just go there and grab things and went back home. We did go to Kyobo Bookstore at Gwanghwamun. I got to buy this TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in KOrean) that I desperately need right now....since I'm going to take the test this coming April. ^^

Ok...back to Eyra's business....as soon as I got what I wanted, I took them to Home Plus at Yongdu station or Dongdaemun-gu Office station...just about 20 minute subway ride (including transfer). We thought it would be a warm evening.....but ...unfortunately...it was windy and cold...so, we were feeling a bit cold.
Not that bad, though.
Just look at the bright faces of Eyra and Freya. I think their excitement of having the new toys in hand beat the shivering cold weather of last night.
What a relief.
Exhausted of going around each floor of the newly renovated Home Plus store, we had dinner at Lotteria at the food plaza. Oh, we also ordered tteokpukki the hot ones. For only 3000 Won, we could get one of the chewy and delicious tteokpukki that my wife loves so much.
OK..that's pretty much what happened last night.
* Oh, on our way back home...on subway we met two Indonesian friends who happen to be studying at KDI, a campus near mine.

Kyunghee University Surrounding Area (part 2)

Feeling a bit hungry, we ate the bungo ppang we brought while looking for some place to eat. Then, we found this nicely arranged red-looking restaurant that mostly sold tteokpukki. Just like what we wanted. The tteokpukki restaurant was named Nanumi (나누미). Judging from the interior of the restaurant and the posted pictures on the wall, the restaurant was once featured on SBS television. I think it is one of the things that made it famous or was it the other way around......that after being featured on SBS, this particular tteokpukki restaurant became famous. One thing for sure....it did taste different from any tteokpukki that I tried anywhere. It was so soft that I could just chew it lightly...it kinda melted in the first bite. Not like other tteoppukki, I guess it was the reason as to why it is famous. Oh They had gorengan or tempura as well. I tried cassava and kimbab tempura. However, the downside was that it was sooooooo terribly spicy!!!!!! *chuckles*...and yet I think I'd love to go there again.
