Exhibits on the Dispersed Families TV Live Documentaries

Congratulations to KBS TV for its success on having its world's longest Live TV event recognized by UNESCO as one of the humankind's treasures....heritage.

Yup...at the KBS hall....there's this exhibition on the show complete with its commentaries, accounts, and scenes of the 이산가족 or...the dispersed families program.

The layouts of the exhibitions are divided into Korean and English versions with moving images from the original programs and some additional footages.

Pictures glaringly showing the histories of modern Korea....during Japanese occupation until the Korea War...which led to the division of the Peninsula and the dispersed families that it entailed.

Being in the exhibitions. ....really choked me up. I barely couls breathe....since I couldn't imagine how painfully sad it must've been for those families.

.....thankfully....the sounds narrating the stories are coming from these vintage radios.....it did help me soothe myself.

Seeing these records....just awed me.

Like...453 hours 45 minutes??? Yup...that's the length of the live TV show trying to connect the dispersed families.

TVs from around the world also reported what's happening in Korea at that time.

The then pres. Ronald Reagan also urged the North to engange in the program....then I learned there was an envoy from the North visited KBS.

Happily elated....finding their loved ones.

Burst into happy tears as they hugged their loved ones...

KBS TV station was liked changed into the sea of peoples trying desperately to find and meet their dispersed family members.

....hmm...too bad....why no one's there?????

It's heart~wrenching history of Modern Korea everyone (esp. younger generations) should know about.

이산 가족 Separated Families

I was at KBS Hall when I encountered the reenactment of the world's longest running live TV show: the search for Korea's separated families live program.

Thousands of Korea's separated families thronged and camped in front of the KBS TV station waiting for their lucky turn to be aired live to find a chance of finding again.their loved ones.

These are the writings. ..placards.  . .banners.  . .they made. It's all placed on the whole frontyard of the tv station.

Oh..the 1983's history is now being processed to be registered as UNESCO heritage.

Pas jalan di depan Studio KBS dan melihat ini,  langsung teringat film 국제시장 atau Ode to My Father. Ada salah satu adegan di mana ribuuuuaaaan orang berkumpul di depan stasiun TV KBS bawa spanduk dan tulisan spt dlm foto ini. Mereka menanti-nanti gilirannya untuk bisa ikut dalam acara 이산가족 찾기 atau mencari keluarga terpisah akibat perang Korea dulu. 

Acara langsung yang rencananya disiarkan pas tanggal 30 Juni tahun 1983 itu, akhirnya terpaksa diperpanjang. YUP diperpanjang hingga tanggal 14 November atau menjadi acara siaran langsung sepanjang 138 hari dengan panjang 453 jam 45 menit. 

Hmmm bisa jadi...inilah acara siaran langsung terpanjang dalam sejarah televisi dunia. Ternyata, dari 53-ribuan kasus keluarga terpisah, sekitar 10-ribuan di antaranya akhirnya berhasil dipertemukan kembali. 

Sempat kuintip cuplikannya: isak tangis..haru...sediih bahagia....dengan iringan lagu lagu yang mendayu dayu jadi ciri khas acara itu. 

Sudah 32 tahun berlalu sejak acara itu usai. Kini sedang didaftarkan jadi salah satu warisan budaya UNESCO. Wow banyaaaak sekali peninggalan sejarah sekitar 25 ribuan catatan siaran, video, tulisan-tulisan, spanduk dan berbagai macam lainnya seperti yg ada dlm foto yg sy jepret hari ini.
