Busy, eh? Sure...I am. But.it's worth-it

Yes..some of my friends were wondering as to why ...despite the fact that I've been busy with my school work, research, job, family...I still have time for one more thing, i.e. teaching Indonesian migrant workers who are studying at the Indonesia Open University in Korea. Well, that's easy to answer! I've been busy involving myself in lots of endless possibilities wherever I am. 

For the past 1.5 years, I've been teaching our friends, Indonesian migrant workers, at the university. I love them so much since they are the cream of the cream...^^

I mean..they've been working hard during a whole week,even until Saturday night, yet...they decided to use their time on Sundays to study at a university level. 

So...it's been such a privilege to be able among them. The ones who see their future by not only 'pursuing' material gain (money or remittance) they send back home to their loved ones, but also pursuing something else: knowledge.

That's why...thanks to our close association with one of our professors (Prof. Yang Seung Yoon) who happens to be serving his term at the Senior Public Diplomacy Group, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Korea...., we managed  to seal a deal of distributing --I mean..donating books on Korea written in Bahasa Indonesia...written by Indonesian students and scholars...and dedicated to all Indonesian students at this Open University.

I am simply glad that I am a part of it.

it's not much...but at least..that's what we're trying to do to keep on doing our goal of sharing knowledge...wherever and whenever.^^

First Day of Tutoring @ UT Korea

Today is the first day of me......being a tutor at Universitas Terbuka Korea (UT Korea). Well, being a tutor in Open University has been something that I've wanted to do since I knew about it last year. The thing back then was that I was not that compelled to be involved in any of UT's activities, simply because it would only sort of distract my already routine activities be it in my own campus and work. But, things started to change when I noticed the fact that all of the students in UT Korea are those whom I deem as young people with obstinate (in a positive way) determination of mind. ^^ What I mean is that they came to Korea to work, in the first place. However, against all odds, they decided to study and pursue a higher education (university-level) while working here in Korea.

They work from Monday to Saturday (on a weekly basis, most of them--that of I know of). Still, with strong determination, they study during Sundays from 10 until 5.
They pay the tuition with their own money, the choose the subjects of their own willing, they spend extra time to study and read the books and other materials that the class requires them to. All in all, I see them as young generation with an indispensable attitude. They are the reasons why I finally decided to get involved in this tutoring world.
What do I get?
A lot, not in material gain, for sure. Coz it's none and that's not the main point.
The fact that I will meet them in a weekly basis and that I will become friends with them (which I do hope so) and that I will be able to talk, share ideas, exchange information about how we see things what's going on around us....are enough to make me say "YES" when there was an open recruitment for tutor at UT Korea.
That's how it went in the first place.
And...today, September 8, 2013 is the first day that I am going to 'be' in the UT Korea.
"Welcome aboard, Suray" I am telling myself--for the moment.^^
and what am I in charge of?
A subject called "Komunikasi Antarbudaya" (Cross-cultural Communication)...and this is the book that I have to use as the main textbook.
hmmm..how cool and interesting is that? *though I got to admit that it is a tediously written one--at least to my point of view. :-)--I find it challenging and fun to read. I have to, right? ^-^

Skype-ing for new Tutors @ UT

Yes, finally I managed to be one of the tutors at Universitas Terbuka or Open University in Korea. The other day, we had our first Skype-chat over what we need to do, prepare, cover, design, plan, ..all of those stuffs....related to the coming semester (this September). Oh, being a tutor means one thing...we'd be able to meet Indonesians (mostly Indonesian migrant workers) who--despite their tight 5-or 6-day workload--still have passion to learn and study on weekends.!!!  

We're a group of Indonesian students who are committed to nurture and assist other fellow Indonesians who put so much effort and enthusiasm in achieving something more. 

Tutor at the Open University? Yes, it's practically a social and 'volunteering' work. 

But, backed with the solid team of seniors and juniors like myself...we dedicate ourselves to 'teach' and 'learn' as well, along with the students.
