Yup....that's Eyra. She's helping her Mom selling Indonesian food during a bazaar at Gwanghwamun square. Oh...she insisted on helping. And...oh. . .she came to Gwanghwamun by subway. . .herself. yes..she finally managed to take Seoul subway by herself.^^

Delightful Food/Snack I Encountered This Past Week

First of all, at times...I got to admit that I've been craving for anything sweet...geezzh...I know I shouldn't have, but who could turn down a giftpack of traditional home-town snack that my student brought for me?

It is made of coconut brown sugar, peanuts, and tapioca (?)....@nyway...it's crunchily tempting. Gone in a few seconds^^

We went to a nearby Korean restaurant and ordered 알밥 [albab] which is basically rice with assorted side dish....but mostly veggies and the 알밥 itself~~which is actually ^fish eggs^

..and with two shrimp tempura, it just blew me away....^^ of course, I didn't eat the shrimps. My kids did.

Back at home...I had scrumptious....light (?) Diner...consisting of tempe, emping, boiled sprouts, black beans mixed with coconut shreds, and the irreplaceable sambal!!!

Thanks to my wife who knows what I like.

I was home and it's served..

And...one more thing that I love is kering tempe or dried tempe (soybean) mixed with peanuts, garlic, shallot, and chilli.

whoa...a good meal for a vegetarian like me.

again and again...I thank my wife for making all of these.

Soto Branggahan (Agaiiiin)

 

Hmm...the one delicacies in Kediri not to be missed whenever we're back home is none other than Soto Branggahan. Yes..Soto..Branggahan. It's funny that I could savor this even though I do not eat meat. so, what about this chicken soup? yes..as for me..it's soto..but without chicken.^^

funny, eh? and I loooooveee the small sprouts that go with it.

Black Sticky Rice & Mung Bean Porridge

Hmm...my favorite mung bean porridge.  

What makes it even more special is the way it is complemented with coconut milk and the black sticky rice that goes just right with it. 

I've been wanting to devour this porridge and when my wife made it for me..

I was like 'wow' 

thank you, Mama for making my favorite 'bubur kacang hijau and ketan hitam.

Chicken Soup without chicken....^^ well, that's a vegetarian-style *chicken* soup.

I love sprouts...and tempe, the fried soybean. Alhamdulillah...this Ramadan is both a bliss and a bless.^^

School Pizza & Rengginang

April 5, 2014. 2 weeks ago. They had their bite of this veggie & cheese pizza. We finally could buy this pizza specially made for us..no meat whatsoever.  

Let the pizza take its time. But, for me..Rengginang was a stunning discovery!!! We still had one huge tin of package we hadn't unwrapped yet. So, upon unwrapping it, voila!! this is something that I've been missing. 

These are rice-crackers that my Mom made for me back home a month ago when we're back to Indonesia. Yes...the tin is Orea...^^ but...inside..it's rengginang.

Morning Snack @ Home Sweet Home in Kediri

It's January 30th. Meaning..it's 10 days before I got to leave for Seoul again. So ..that being said..I always made the best of each day to enjoy everything during my stay being back home...and how could I do that? Well, every morning..Mom always prepared some traditional snacks I used to have when I was still in Kediri. 

Those colorful snacks are made of cassava with coconut milk. And the brown donuts-shaped snacks were made out of nangka (jack fruit).  

Onde-onde or sesame balls, banana-leaf covered glutenous rice, yellow rice, fermented cassava, and other...well...I can't remember the names..but mostly that's what I remembered though.  

This is the dining table or at this hour..it's breakfast table. Eyra just woke up and she greeted me sulkily ....wondering what I was doing with the camera at work. Well..dear..your Daddy has been capturing every moment we spent during our 3-week vacation back home. Oh...those three pictures of us..hanging on the wall. 

me, my younger brother, and younger sister....our memorable high-school pictures. Were they taken for school album before graduation? I guess so. But...gee....I forgot that I used to have hair...ㅋㅋㅋㅋ At times I can't believe it myself....

where have all of those hair gone:-) 

Srabi Notokusuman

One thing I learned about my hometown, Kediri, after leaving it for more than 3 years....is how varied the food stalls had become. I mean...even I never realized that Srabi Notokusuman (Solo's traditional pancake) that I used to find (ONLY) in Solo or in Jogja...is now available in my hometown.  

And the best part is that...they use the same traditional method of cooking the srabi (pancakes). Hmmm...I loved it. 

Yup, it's written that it dated back in 1923 in Solo and since then..they never changed the way the pancakes are made. 

But..one thing for sure...to suit the taste of the so-called 'young generation' ㅋㅋㅋ they do now have cheese & chocolate flavor....to add up the established original flavor--which is nothing more than coconut-milk flavor. 

and what about this one? well, we had mi ayam or chicken fried noodles for our late-afternoon snack. SNACK?  

well, yes. Not me...definitely. Mostly..the girls loved it. 

Oh...I can't stand the name of the restaurant .Amazy...oh please...shouldn't it be 'amazed' or' amazing' ..but Amazy...

well...what's in a name. 

Penganan jaman dulu

wah...asyik dan pas banget. ketika lagi istirahat nunggu makan siang yang nggak kunjung datang..tiba-tiba ada salah seorang mahasiswa yang menyodorkan makanan tradisional ini. Ada empat jenis...yang satu pun lidahku nggak bisa nyebutin namanya.

Duuuh duulu pernah makan dan beberapa kali lihat...tapi nggak tahu namanya... 

oh..hanya satu yang nggak / belum pernah kumakan..yang lonjong.

itu sumpah..namanya apa ya...duuuh penasaran nih jadinya.

gimana coba...sudah terlanjur kemakan..tapi nggak tahu namanya.

rasanya sesek di dada...karena penasaran dan gemez...

ada yang tahu nama penganan ini?

Oh...akhirnya saya dapat jawaban beberapa makanan itu. SEmua berkat dari salah satu pembaca setia blog ini...Lydia Sari.
