Bravo! ASEAN in Korea (part 2)

 

The host (Korea) performed its taekwondo extravaganza. 

It's really a feast to the eyes. 

Was it taekwondo? was it K-pop concert? was it a theatrical performance?

all in one. 

And they sealed off the show with a parade of ASEAN members' flags. 

to signify the unity of its members along with Korea as its ally(?) 

it's Thailand team. 

which was pretty impressive: they combined contemporary dance, drawing on stage, and a Chinese zither show...all in one: symbolizing harmony. 

It's Vietnamese team. 

Myanmar team. 

They're colorfully clad in adornment that matched perfectly in tune with the music. 

I think it's one of the best shows.

One Indonesian Day (Part 2): The Beginning

@ 13.10 pm. a throng of people gathered the Ansan gymnasium where Indonesian Day was held. thousands of people kept coming and going out during the event. Now listen..

Living in Korea as migrant workers do not hinder them from having a kind-of-extracurricular that might just work for them. Like these guys' passion for taekwondo was also shown at the event...and a round applause was like heard across the hall.

More and more people were coming in. 

Let me be one of your friends. Eyra made friends already with the students who happened to visit there, too. 

Since we were sitting on the balcony or the side-section of the spectators hall, we could see the whole session of each performance hassle-free.

Eyra was always easily entertained. 

The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia gave a welcoming speech in the intermission of the event, followed by the anthem of Indonesia sung by (most) of the audience.

Korea di Olimpiade London (part 7)

This is an excerpt of a radio show (about Korea's achievement in 2012 London Olympics) that I hosted via KBS World Radio from July 27 - August 12, 2012). As an act to capture and make it eternal, I uploaded the transcript as it is).

PANDANGAN MATA OLIMPIADE LONDON 2012

Selamat berjumpa kembali para pendengar KBS World Radio seksi bahasa Indonesia.

Tak terasa ajang olimpiade London tinggal beberapa hari lagi tersisa. namun masih banyak pertandingan yang patut kita tonton, terutama karena para atlet Korea masih harus berjuang untuk memperebutkan beberapa medali di beberapa cabang. Mari kita tengok apa saja ajang olahraga tersebut.

Pendengar, walaupun kemarin tidak ada medali yang diraih tim Korea, timnas Korea tetap memberikan secercah harapan pada masyarakat Korea. Pertandingan perebutan medali perunggu di cabang bola tangan, bola voli, dan sepak bola besok adalah tiga cabang yang banyak dinantikan.

Mari kita tengok tim bola voli putri Korea Selatan yang kemarin bertanding dalam semifinal. Walaupun tim ini kalah 0 – 3 melawan Amerika Serikat pada pertandingan Kamis kemarin, tim ini terlihat telah berusaha sekuatnya melawan tim tangguh AS. Untuk itu, tim bola voli putri akan menghadapi Jepang pada hari Sabtu untuk memperebutkan tempat ketiga atau medali perunggu. Jika memang, maka ini akan menjadi medali Korea pertama dalam cabang bola voli putri di tingkat dunia. 

Ada satu hal yang perlu kami sampaikan pada para pendengar, yaitu salah seorang atlet bola voli putri Korea yang bernama Kim Yeon Kyeong adalah atlet voli putri kelas dunia yang diakui karena kegesitannya dalam memimpin permainan voli untuk timnya. Singkat kata, dengan berhasilnya masuk ke semifinal, tim bola voli putri Korea dapat dikatakan sebagai tim voli kelas dunia. Dia pun berkata bahwa dia akan berusaha sekuat tenaga membawa medali untuk bangsanya. Kita tunggu bagaimana hasilnya nanti.

Sekarang, mari kita beralih ke cabang bola tangan putri. Tim putri ini kemarin kalah melawan Norwegia dengan skor 25 – 31 dalam babak semifinal. Untuk itu, tim ini harus melawan Spanyol di hari Minggu nanti untuk mendapatkan perunggu. Sekarang mari kita simak petikan wawancara dengan Woo Seon Hee, salah seorang pemainnya.

Ternyata lawan dalam babak ini sangat tangguh. Tim kami yang cedera dan tak ada pemain pengganti. Dari segi kekuatan pun seakan banyak tertinggal. Jadi, kami akan berusahan sekuat tenaga lagi untuk mendapatkan medali perunggu dalam laga berikutnya. Terima kasih.

Seperti yang kami beritakan kemarin, pesenam ritmik yaitu Son Yeon Jae mempunyai kans besar untuk masuk ke final Olimpiade London. Dia terlihat begitu menawan dalam mempertontonkan kebolehannya dalam senam ritmik sambil membawa bola dan pita. Hal itu selaras dengan kelenturan tubuhnya yang menunjang lompatan tingginya. Intinya kepiawaiannya tidak tertinggal dari pesenam dunia lainnya.

"Secara keseluruhan, saya tampil stabil. Memang, saya sempat berbuat kesalahan kecil dengan bolanya, namun bila berhasil masuk final saya akan memperbaikinya dan akan lebih konsentrasi. Jadi sepertinya tak masalah. Walaupun begitu, tingkat kesulitan senam dengan tongkat dan pita memang lebih sulit dibandingkan dengan hoop dan bola, jadi saya harus lebih berkonsentrasi lagi. Jadi, saya akan melupakan kejadian dengan hoop dan bola tadi, dan akan berusaha lebih baik dalam senam senam tongkat dan pita."

Intinya, Son Yeon Jae dalam pertandingan hari pertama telah menunjukkan yang terbaik dalam kelasnya. Dia tahu bahwa dialah harapan tim Korea dalam senam ritmik di Olimpiade ini.

Nah, pendengar laga apa yang ada di akhir pekan ini?  Taekwondoin putri kelas 67 kg yaitu Hwang Kyeong Seon peraih emas Olimpiade Beijing akan bertanding untuk mempertahankan gelarnya. 

Sementara itu, banyak warga Korea juga menunggu pertandingan sepak bola antara Korea – Jepang untuk memperebutkan tempat ketiga supremasi sepakbola Olimpiade. Dan yang akan membuat laga ini semakin mendebarkan, adalah karena harga diri kedua bangsa akan mewarnai pertandingan ini.

2012 Korea-ASEAN Culture and Arts Forum (part 2)

It was the 2nd day of the Forum or the main event of the program.
The Forum was held at Korea National Museum at Yongsan.
The place--I think--was a perfect venue for the occasion since it had what this Forum needed. all of the gadgets available...even the interpreting booth and its devices for all of the participants were available. Not to mention, the stage. It was relatively small, but big enough for a forum like this.
That day I managed to see the Thailand, Brunei, and Indonesian delegates' presentations.
Too bad..I came after noon so I did not have a chance to see the Korea's parts--which I heard was a marvelous one.











So, Thailand delegates portrayed the intricate movement, gestures, mimics of dancers in portraying the dynamics, the feeling, the attitudes of people of different classes, the monkey, and even the demons!!!

Indeed, judging from the fact or the sheer seriousness of the delegates, I could learn that Thailand's version of Ramayana stories performed by those dancers t have been the best ones ever.
They have evolved and developed such an intricate details in capturing human's as well as non-human's expression through arts and dances.










As for Brunei's delegates, I learned some things about Pencak Silat, an Indonesian by origin, a Malay martial art form. Well,,,,not much to say about this...apart from the fact that...one participant's remark did strike me most since he asked or wondered as to whether Pencak Silat would be able to kick opponent's butt as he saw or thought of it as being too subtle and tender and soft and looked to him as having no....power whatsoever....as opposed to Taekwondo^^
Well,....what I could say was.....well...you should see what the real Pencak Silat is, then.^^

then, Mr. Eddy's turn came.
I was helping him preparing the show...well..not much...or sort of accompanying him in preparation.
Pak Eddy was performing the modern traditional shadow puppet called "wayang kancil"

It was like being zapped into the whole world of Javanese culture when I listened to pak Eddy's voice imbued within the echoing surround gamelan orchestra....that was being played on a CD^^
at least...I thought it was a remarkable show....and forum...highlighting the best that ASEAN and Korea have to offer to each other.

The mere fact that culture and arts do exist...simply show that people do evolve in conveying their humanity...and that was something in common that we should cherish as a human.
