Let's have Some Lunch

Lunch, dinner...whenever ..whichever...Bapuri family restaurant is just around the block.

And there are some indispensable menu whenever we go there.

Right, Freya?^^

It's veggie gimbab or sometimes shrimp gimbab. 

Of course, with ham excluded on purpose.^^ 

The colorful combination of ingredients that make up and give meaning to the word 'gimbab' really sums up how it does taste.

Then, chijjeu rapukki (cheese on top of ramyeon and ttteokpukki 'rice cakes') with its spicy gochujang 'chili powder' sauce gives an unforgiving taste in the sense that we're hooked on this particular food.^^

Then..udon or udong with its crispy tofu-like crackers on top of it.

We do love having each of them for either lunch or dinner...well...twice a week, maybe.^^

Morning Snack in Jogjakarta: Mini Durian and Gimbab

We were startled by the thin thud sound. It turned out to be a mini durian that just fell off the tree. We picked it up and sliced it open....only to find that it had no flesh enough to eat. 

But..what intrigued us was the size of the Durian. It's as small as a broccoli!!!

Did we eat it, then? Heck, no.:) 

But, instead, we had gimbab that my wife and her sister prepared for us.

We brought along most of the ingredients from Korea and we did it right here in Jogja. 

I could boast to say that even though we're in Jogja, we did have some Korean snacks or food occasionally. how cool is that, eh?

What's for Lunch? Kimbab!!!

Kimbab? Of course, the only kimbab I can eat is vegetable kimbab (야채김밥/ yachaekimbab).

Since it was raining cats and dogs outside, I felt reluctant to go out. 

The office restaurant's menu served pork, hams, fish, and other things that I cannot eat. hmm..being a vegetarian is fun but at times it's a bit hard, as well. 

Then..came along Seonhee who asked me if I wanted to have some kimbab. 

Sure, why not. So, she bought me some..and that's my lunch.

A good lunch? hmm...yeah. sure. I liked it. 

Home-made Kimbab & Tubu Chobab

Tubu chobab or seasoned rice wrapped in triangle-shaped tofu. At least that's how I describe what 두부초밥 tubuchobab is all about. And the fact that it contains lots of veggies is one thing that makes it so irresistible to me, and the kids, too. 

Since we cannot eat the ones being sold outside, for they contain hams, instead, we make this dish at home. Thanks to Mama *the kids' Mom* who has a knack for making something new out of curiosity. 

Even kimbab has also been one of our favorite meals. Usually the kids do not like eating veggies, but interestingly enough, they do not mind eating them....as long as the veggies are kimbab-style.  

I guess the kim or seaweed layers that wraps the kimbab is one of the reasons they enjoy eating them. 

Well, the thing is that...they are all HOME-MADE. 

And that's a plus. 

Weekend Outing: Kimbab+Ice Cream

Outing? well, sort of. Outing within an indoor food court. It was drizzling or prolonged downpour during weekend. So, as we'd decided to go out...we could not just stay home. After all the kids wanted to buy some books. 

Off we went to Kyobo bookstore and stayed there for hours that dinner time had almost passed us by. So, the only option was to have on-the-spot dinner.

And...since not many that we could eat..., we decided to have some vegetables kimbab that my kids happen to love and some deolseot bibimbap (야채 돌솥비빔밥) *unseen in the picture.

What could be more endearing than having BR ice cream as dessert. 

The Double-Up package did benefit some ice cream enthusiasts.

"Hey, gals...are you forgetting something? Daddy wants to have some, too!!!!!!"

Kyunghee University Surrounding Area (part 2)

Feeling a bit hungry, we ate the bungo ppang we brought while looking for some place to eat. Then, we found this nicely arranged red-looking restaurant that mostly sold tteokpukki. Just like what we wanted. The tteokpukki restaurant was named Nanumi (나누미). Judging from the interior of the restaurant and the posted pictures on the wall, the restaurant was once featured on SBS television. I think it is one of the things that made it famous or was it the other way around......that after being featured on SBS, this particular tteokpukki restaurant became famous. One thing for sure....it did taste different from any tteokpukki that I tried anywhere. It was so soft that I could just chew it lightly...it kinda melted in the first bite. Not like other tteoppukki, I guess it was the reason as to why it is famous. Oh They had gorengan or tempura as well. I tried cassava and kimbab tempura. However, the downside was that it was sooooooo terribly spicy!!!!!! *chuckles*...and yet I think I'd love to go there again.
