한대앞역

매주 일요일에 이역울 통해 한대로 가서 UT 학생들을 가르쳐 야한다.

거의 1년이 되었네요.

즐겁고 보람이 있다.

오늘 지하철을 기다릴때 찍은 엉뚱한 사진이지만 의미가 분명히 있는 것아다.

늘 이 역에서의 모든 추억이 남아 있도록 바라본다는 것이죠.

이렇게 좋은 날씨에 2시간동안 지하철을 타는거 ....뭐랄까. ...밖에서 봄 향기를 작접 맡아 볼 수 있다면....

A Bird Trapped in Our Class

Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014. I was just about to prepare for the class when suddenly I heard a chirping sound in the class. As it turned out, a bird was in the room. 

I tried not to make a single noise so as to be able to zoom it and capture it into my camera. Yeah. I did it. 

Then it flew right under the tables.... 

Then..hopped again on the edge of an empty table.. 

well, that's pretty much what happened before I started the class...

before the student of mine came.

Then..at about 3 pm..I got out of the class and found out a commotion. As it turned out, it was not a commotion at all. They were parents of students taking an exam (seemed to be a university-entrance examination or something). One thing for sure, it must've been a very important exam since even the parents came to support their children. 

Yes..and it's just at one building. Almost all buildings had the same 'commotion-like' crowd of people waiting for their loved ones to come out of the 'exam-rooms'.

Another great day spent at Indonesia Open University, Korea Campus. ^^

Yes...each Sunday, we rent some rooms to teach Indonesian migrant workers at Hanyang University, Erica Campus.

The sky's again and again..bright blue. 

We're waiting for the shuttle bus (see the picture?) that would take us from campus to Hanyang University Subway Station--located about 15-minute bus ride.

See? that's thing: 한대앞역이란 역이름이 지여진 이유가 뭔지  궁금하네^^

보통 뭐 뭐 뭐 앞 이란 말은 바로 그 뭐뭐뭐앞에 존재한다는 것이 아닐까?

근데... 재미있는건...한대앞역은.....멀리 떨어져 있다는 사실을 알게 되자...와 대단하다.

아니..신기하네요.

다행이 이러한 셔틀버스가 마련해 줘서 ....고맙기는요.

살곶이 수영장 Salgoji Swimming Pool: Selfie Time....

Still @ the swimming pool for the kids. As for me...I just had to pull myself together...in the midst of the scorching heat....yet..I got to find myself...smiling enjoying the fun..that the kids were having.^^ 

what did I do?

SElfIE-ing.Yes...with the bug-eyed glasses ON....let me start what I did. 

First...of course..I got to take the kids' picture while they were IN the water.

Freya seemed to be grinning from ear to ear... 

But..of course...I was, too. 

no matter how hot it was....yet..the fun inside..seemed to conquer the dripping sweat... 

Gee...I should've changed the glasses...I mean..it's NOT mine. It's my wife's...which surely means..that I should not HAVE worn those-feminine-style ones. 

Okay..stop selfie-ing..and ..I began clicking again..my camera...trying to search for the kids' whereabouts. 

@ Mr. Pizza: A Dinner

Did you have fun, gals? Sure they did. 

They were so excited when we told them that we would dine out. Especially..as they found out that we would have pizza over dinner. Hmm...having pizza is actually a bit hard right here in Korea where most of the ingredients are meat that we cannot eat. So, the only safe choice we could have is (chuckles) always to make sure that we have either vegetarian pizzas or seafood pizzas. 

So, the other day (Monday night), we met our two students who happened to be also studying in Seoul. Diana (white jilbab): arrived a year ago to start her MA at Hanyang University. And Hesti (black jilbab): just graduated a week ago from Ehwa Womans University.

So, the occasion: was to welcome Diana and at the same time to congratulate Hesti on her graduation.

Once again: Eyra and Freya could not keep themselves quiet for a while. They kept on moving about the place: Oh, they loved seeing the cook make pizza live. Yes: one of the characteristics of Mr. Pizza is that customers have a chance to see the pizzas being made right in front of their eyes.  

Now it's a picture where my wife's in it^^. See all the girls are clad in jilbab. And I was the only man in the group. One man with three women in jilbab and two kids:)^^ I wonder if there were other customers who might have misunderstood the situation like: 

"Wow, that man has three women!!!!^^^ hahahahahahahahahaha

Of course...I was just making fun of myself.

But, with more and more Moslems students coming to Korea or Seoul in particular, I am hoping that more and more people are more accustomed and welcome to seeing women in jilbab. 

After all, Korea is transforming itself into a multicultural society. 

And we are a part of Korean society at the moment. 

Oh..ah..about the pizza: We loved it. We love Mr. Pizza.!!!!

Pansori 판소리: A New Twisted Pansori (part 1)

Twisted Pansori? Yup, that's how I describe the Pansori I just watched earlier today.
I got this invitation--in fact as many as my 90 other friends or so, also got this invitation--to see the premiere of the so-called Pansori: Wearing Rain Boot(?) 판소리 레인부츠를 신다 (Geez: I have to admist that I got no idea what it meant).
Anyway...the point was that...I was so ecstatic when our sonsaengnim told us about this invitation to see and experience Pansori--wait for it: not the one that would dooze people away just simply by hearing the word 'pansori', especially for any foreigners who are not that accustomed to what this is all about. Some of you may have seen it, might have heard  of it from TV, friends, or even saw it on YouTube or even live show before.

As for me, I did see Pansori about twice and most of them were relatively palatable--that's what I could say about this. For those who are not that yet accustomed to or better yet...not being able to grasp Korean language---(just like me--giggle)^^, Pansori would only make one to wonder as to how to enjoy this seemingly intricate singing-genre authentic only and solely in Korea.

BUT......the one that I just saw today...INDEED juggernautingly changed the way I would perceive Pansori for once more.
I've been liked.....wham.....slapped on my face as to how creative these young kids from Hanyang University of Music Department were. They did bring in and open up our eyes...to the new level of Pansori ......unlike any other shows I've seen so far.
