Indonesian Day @ Ansan

Yesterday, Sunday, June 3, 2012 was Indonesian Day. A day when Indonesians in Korea gathered in one place to meet and get to know one another while at the same having the best that Indonesian cuisine and culture had to offer and show off. Sponsored by the Embassy of Indonesia, Indonesian Students' Association (PERPIKA), and Indonesian Migrant Workers' Association, the day started with lots of activities for anyone to enjoy.
We left home at about 9.30 a.m by train to Ansan, almost 2-hour ride from Seoul. It was so stiflingly hot that we got to wear sunglasses, or lest we wouldn't be able to enjoy the scenery along the way.

Got there at about noon. Gosh...^^ so hot. The stage was half empty since most of the visitors preferred to stay around the booths where food and any other merchandises were being displayed. See the picture? The stage was sooo huge, but unfortunately...the heat had somewhat dispersed the visitors away.

Despite the heat, Freya, Eyra, and their newly met friend, a son of my frriend's, wer busy playing at the lawn near the stadium where the program was held.
They were so excited of playing hide and seek in the park. Kids!

I had to call her back since the heat might choke her up or dry out her energy......
But she kept on playing until we kinda finished having our lunch there.

This was the shady places underneath some trees surrounding the stadium where most of us were having lunch. The menu: Soto, Mie Ayam, Tahu Isi, Krupuk, Teh Botol Sosro, Urapan, and many other things we could think of.^^
Had there been no shady places like this, most of us would have gone home right from the beginning of the program. This IS summer  ^^

To mark the end of our visit in the park, we might as well take some more pictures--
to prove ourselves that we WERE there.

With Wulan (my student), Mbak Ulfa (my friend's Wife), and my wife and children, we were taking the last stance of being exposed to the heat under the scorching sun.
Oh, the music and performance kept going on, of course.

On our way to the parking lot, unexpectedly we met lots of friends from Gangneung province. Most of them were my friends, students, colleagues who are at the moment studying at numerous  universities
around Gangneung. But, some, that I know of, are studying at Gangneung-Wonju National University.
It turned out that they just got back from Ansan--a 30-minute ride from the venue-- to have their lunch. What? I thought that they were having their lunch at the venue of Indonesia Day. Hmm...they preferred to have theirs at Indonesian restaurants scattered in Ansan area.

So, after taking a picture, we bid adieu and wished them good luck with all of their endeavors...and as for us: we were heading straight for Ansan to have our 2nd round of lunch.
Well, since we WERE in Ansan area, we might as well try our luck to have Indonesian food.
That's the highlight of our Indonesian Day.
